Almost every wildland agency in California had Ruffian Products because firefighters could come directly to Ruffian to create products they needed.

In the early 2010's Ruffian was sold because the original owners retired. The first attempt did not go well and the original owners had a legal battle. In 2014 Bill Harder purchased Ruffian and brought the company to the modern age with a website and dozens of new products including aviation.

In 2024 Ruffian Ruffian purchased by Jason and Tom. Jason and Tom, noth US Army Veterans, were Police Officers who became friends in the academy in 2005. Jason was a business major in college and Tom who had a kydex holster side hustle saw the promise in a company with almost 40 years of name recognition. One of the first major changes they did to the company was to convert the aging website to Shopify. 2025 brought records sales to the company and record growth. Ruffian Specialties transformed into Ruffian Fire and Ruffian Classic Canvas, dividing two distinctive brands. Tom and Jason are committed to upholding the rich history of making some of the most rugged and durable products in the industry.
